Megamillions Scandal McDonald's Employees in Maryland Are Outraged!!! Tube. Duration : 3.62 Mins.

Employees at a McDonald's in Maryland are outraged at a co-worker who claims she won a 5million Mega Millions jackpot which she is not planning on sharing - despite the fact they had pooled their money for tickets. Workers at the fast food outlet bought a number of tickets together for the biggest lottery in world history but Mirlande Wilson, 37, claims she separately bought one of the three tickets nationwide that will split a record 6 million payout. 'We had a group plan, but I went and played by myself. [The 'winning' ticket] wasn't on the group plan,' Wilson told The New York Post.

I ordered a parcel from the uk and it still hasn't arrived after double the specified delivery time?

I ordered it 2 weeks ago today and it was specified as taking 4-6 days. ( i live in aus) i also used this http://www1.auspost.com.au/gc/ and it said it shouldve arrived last friday. I spent $130 on this so its really important i find out a quick solution and the seller is unable to give a refund for 28 days. What is best to do in this situation?I ordered a parcel from the uk and it still hasn't arrived after double the specified delivery time?
Mailing times are always longer at Christmas, that's why we're always being told to post early! There will be a huge volume of mail coming from the UK and it all needs to be checked by Australian Quarantine before going into the mail system so expect some delays there. Plus Australia Post were on strike yesterday which doesn't help.

Expecting the package to get here in 4-6 days at this time of year was overly optimistic. A more realistic timeframe would be 2 to 3 weeks. If you haven't received it after 3 weeks contact the sender. I ordered something from Canada three weeks ago, and I honestly don't expect to see it until the New Year.

The link you gave is simply Australia Post's 'expected date calculator', not a guarantee that an item will arrive on a specified date.
Dunno, but I live in the UK and I can tell you that the postal system here is in crisis with loads of delayed mail piled up in sorting offices.I ordered a parcel from the uk and it still hasn't arrived after double the specified delivery time?
I think you'll find that Australia Post is on strike, nothing you can do about it I don't think. I hope it arrives for you before christmas.
Well the seller won't be able to do anything about it if the post lost it.

You should contact them and tell them if it still doesn't arrive by next week.I ordered a parcel from the uk and it still hasn't arrived after double the specified delivery time?
They cheated you. Call the company and threaten that you will sue them for false delivery and item.

It was 125 Years Ago Today ...

Today is a significant day in postal history.  On October 11, 1887, the most infamous of the 11 “Barefoot Mailmen” --- James Edward “Ed” Hamilton ---vanished while swimming in the Hillsboro Inlet near Pompano Beach.  That was  125 years ago! With no railroad or regular ship service, a letter from Miami to Jupiter took six to eight weeks via Key West, Havana, and New York.  Between 1885 and 1893, pioneers traveled the 136 miles between Palm Beach and Key Biscayne. They traveled 56 miles in small boats and the remaining 80 on foot, walking at the ocean’s edge.  In late 1892 the first county road from Lantana to Lemon City was completed. The following year the U.S. Postal Service did not renew the "Barefoot Mailman's" contract.
Historians believe Hamilton, on what would be his last run, arrived at the inlet and found his boat gone, apparently stolen. The presumption is the determined mailman tried to swim and drowned ... or was eaten by alligators.
The Barefoot Mailman is memorialized in the town seal of Hypoluxo, a historical marker at Boca Raton’s Spanish River Park, and a statue of Hamilton near the spot where he died. A six-panel mural painted by Connecticut artist Steven Dohanos in the late 1930s is in the lobby of the West Palm Beach Main Office at 3200 Summit Blvd.Special thanks to West Palm Beach Customer Relations Coordinator LuAnn Warner for photographing the artwork to share with us.

The Chesbro/ Lynch Race

To contact us Click HERE
I've been wondering about the state assembly race. I certainly won't vote for Wes Chesbro, but do I vote for Tom Lynch or not vote at all? After reading the yesterday's Times- Standard story on the race, I think I've decided.

Lynch looks like the clear choice to me. First of all, he committed what amounts to heresy among Democrats by opposing Prop 30- the sales and income tax increase. He feels he "...hasn't seen changes in the state's spending practices" to justify it. That's pretty much along the lines of what I've been saying.

He also wants to work on public worker pension reform, something he brought up more than once during the League Of Women Voters candidate forum a while back. That's something most Democrats balk at, as well. Chesbro, of course, not really wanting to bring the issue up publicly because he helped create that problem.

As Einstein supposedly said, "A problem can't be solved by the same mentality that created it". Seems to me Lynch is the obvious choice in this race. I'll likely vote for Tom Lynch on November 6.

Saving Money and the Environment

To contact us Click HERE

This month is National Energy Action Month, and the Postal Service is continuing to champion the cause of going green. Using low and no cost methods to reduce energy has saved USPS $22 million alone in 2011 through 1,000 energy reduction projects. It has also reduced energy use by more than 25 percent since 2003.

Working towards a more environmentally friendly world begins on the local level. Switching off lights when not in use, shutting down computers when away for extended periods of time, and using more energy efficient light bulbs are just a few ways to reduce costs without breaking the bank. Many opportunities to reduce energy consumption come at the inexpensive price of simply being aware of how to use resources more efficiently.

The Postal Service has specific goals to help reduce costs and improve efficiency even further including:

  • Reduction of facility energy use by 30 percent by 2015,
  • Reduction of water usage by 10 percent by 2015,
  • Diversion of 50 percent of solid waste from landfills by 2015, and
  • Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 20 percent by 2020.

Everyone plays an important role in reducing costs and protecting the environment. The Postal Service will continue to encourage employees to find even more ways to help make its environmental footprint even smaller.

What other green suggestions do you have for reducing energy use and landfill waste?

Customer inadvertently mailed a deposit slip and two checks at Postal Sweets in West Palm Beach.

Story & Photo by LuAnn Warner, Customer Relations Coordinator, West Palm Beach
“The checks are in the mail” saidCustomer Marcela Masters, advisor of Estate Preservers, Inc. specializing in  federal retirement benefits.  When Ms. Masters spoke those words to KevinHuggins of US Postal Sweets, she did not realize what a sweet deal she was about toreceive.  Marcela’s husband, Ted, had dutifullydeposited mail at the Masters favorite contract postal station, US PostalSweets. Along with letters, Ted inadvertently mailed a deposit slip with twochecks attached.
When the Masters realized their mistake at 7 p.m. that evening, they immediately placed a phone call to Mr. Huggins, a clerk working at theCPU. Mr. Huggins informed the couple that the mail had already been picked upand referred them to the Boca Raton Post Office. Mr. Masters spoke with LuAnnGregg, supervisor at Downtown Station in Boca Raton the next morning. Ms. Gregg informed the couplethat all mail had already been sent for processing to the West Palm BeachP&DC facility the evening prior. She provided them the phone number for thefacility.
Marcela had a dentist appointmentin the West Palm Beacharea that morning and decided to visit rather than call the Window Unit.  She spoke to Customer Relations Coordinator LuAnn Warner, and a search began in cancellations at the West Palm P&DC.  The lost items were recovered and arrangementswere made to return the missing checks at the Boca Raton Palmetto Park PostalStore that very afternoon.
Ms. Mastersstated that she “really did not expect to see the deposit again” and was“amazed at your spirit of cooperation.” Supervisor LuAnn Gregg was happy to bepart of the recovery and stated that it was nice “to see good deeds being donefor good people.” Luck, timing, and good advice attributed to all things being favorablefor this customer for the sweet return of the missing checks. The West PalmBeach P&DC cancels approximately 350,000 pieces of mail daily.

Police State: Coming To Your Neighborhood?

Here's a troubling video (a bit over 13 minutes) about New York City's Stop and Frisk policy. I realize it's one- sided for the most part, but I also think it's pretty much spot on. It wouldn't surprise me these sorts of policies spread around the nation sooner than many of us expect. It could be argued they already have.

This is a massive civil rights violation by any department involved and they should be investigated and prosecuted by the U.S. Department of Justice. I highly doubt either Obama or Romney would be willing to get involved in stopping this sort of thing.

As this writer points out, Obama's record is nothing to brag about. Romney hasn't given any indication he'd be any different. Gary Johnson has gone on record in support of our civil liberties.

Addendum: Ooops! I forgot to thank Radley Balko for the heads up on the video. I also noticed a link on his post to The Nation that tells a bit more about the video.

My Treatise On Two Party Dominance

To contact us Click HERE
I've been thinking a lot lately about why the two main parties dominate American politics. With one poll or another saying a lot of people would prefer a third choice, why do they always dismiss the other choices they already have? Why are people so reluctant to abandon the two major parties?

I know a lot will say it's because of money. Money has corrupted politics and blah, blah, blah. There's certainly some truth to that, but I think money comes more into the equation after other factors. I'm wondering if those other factors are psychological ones that most human beings share?

My list, so far comes down to four factors. I'll only elaborate on the first one now as I don't want to prematurely release my treatise, although the way it's going maybe I never will!

To start, we have #1. Simplicity: Most people have a simple view of most things in both life and politics and prefer to keep it that way. They see things as Good or Bad. Us vs. Them. Black vs. White, Red vs. Blue and so forth. They like their politics nice and simple and limiting it to Republicans vs. Democrats accommodates that. I'll go so far as to say it makes them feel safer.

The others I've come up with are, #2- Being Part of a Crowd, #3- Fraternalism and #4- Pragmatism. Fraternalism and Pragmatism aren't so much the reason people are drawn to the 2 parties, but reasons that system got so strong and most feel uncomfortable abandoning it.

I suppose I could add Money as #5. Fair enough, but there's plenty of evidence money doesn't always win elections. Still, it does allow the two parties to maintain dominance.

I'll elaborate on factors 2 through 4 or 5 should I ever come close to finishing my treatise. I'm wondering if any of you out there have any observations or suggestions regarding the dominance of our two parties as I've alluded to here? If so, feel free to leave a comment.

Scary Health Care Stuff

To contact us Click HERE
J.D. Tuccille has a piece up on Reason magazine about some aspects of health care to look forward to. They're based on a recent survey of physicians by The Physician's Foundation. Among the troubling statistics:
  • 60.6 percent of physicians say they would retire today if they could (up from 45 percent in 2008)
  • 33.5 percent of physicians say they wouldn't go into medicine if they had their careers to do over (up from 27 percent in 2008)
  • Physicians are seeing 16.6% fewer patients per day than they did in 2008, a decline that could lead to tens of millions of fewer patients seen per year.
  • Over 52 percent of physicians have limited the access Medicare patients have to their practices or are planning to do so.
  • Over 26 percent of physicians have closed their practices to Medicaid patients.
  • In the next one to three years, over 50 percent of physicians plan to cut back on patients, work part-time, switch to concierge medicine, retire or take other steps that would reduce patient access to their services.

I don't know about my current physician, Dr. Courtney Ladika. I haven't asked her. Then again, I didn't ask my last two doctors, either. They brought it up first.

They both volunteered that they thought health care should be a right and government should pay for it. This, despite the fact that doctors that accept MediCare and MediCal patients are increasingly hard to find, especially around here. Didn't make sense to me, but maybe that's why both of them recently retired?

Another Problematic and Inadequate Moving Alternative: Atlas' Smart Move Program

To contact us Click HERE
As someone whose firm has helped over 100,000 customers with shipments less than 2000
lbs, moving from one state to another (interstate moving), I was shocked and surprised to see that one of the nation's leading Van Lines, Atlas, chose to embark on a unique Small Shipment
Program, aptly named, Smart Move.

I can't find anything smart about it.

As the first firm in the nation to actually interact with the Less than Truckload Freight Industry,
Box Brothers simply created a system that allows for small shipments to be transported across state lines, by utilizing the existing infrastructure of the United States Freight system.

At the time, everyone in the moving industry, simply felt that they had nothing in common with the freight industry, as plain and simple, the movers were specialists and the freight guys were just haulers. As is often the case, there has always been more synergy between these two industries than anyone in either industry has admitted.

After all, about 25 years ago, it was a railroad, Norfork Southern, who owned North American Van Lines, and who decided it was foolish to have drop frame trailers, as someone there theorized that if they had equipment and orders but not the right equipment to haul freight, even if they were going in the same direction, they could not capitalize on it, due to the fact that
drop frame trailers were not suitable for palletized freight shipments.

Conceptually, this was not a bad idea, but it never worked and North American Van Lines, never seemed to get up to speed hauling a lot of freight. It could be that the Moving and Storage Industry is sometimes, decentralized with agent drivers and agents, who did not want the freight and of course, there were those who argued that it would be penny wise and pound foolish
to have a van line driver miss a job to load 5000 lbs when the freight firm needed 400 lbs picked up and delivered in a few days--something that the household driver and industry was simply not prepared to work out--then.

So here comes Atlas with this idea to create these heavy duty plastic type containers, similar to what we call a lift van, but much sturdier, and I suspect, as a very high cost. Never mind the carbon footprint so often discussed today.

But then, Atlas did something new in its program, it announced that it would not use the Atlas
over the road fleet to help facilitate the movement of these units, instead, deciding to put the
whole program onto a freight platform, to most likely obtain the benefit of quicker delivery dates than the moving industry can deliver, due to its structure of utilizing owner operators for interstate service.

Of course, the problem here is the same problem with all of the other small shipment solutions
the van lines have come up with in the past, merely addressing the need to offer a small shipment alternative, but with nothing compelling to the customer or nothing that moves the service and price quotient any closer to giving the customer a good and valuable transparent service, which is just what the industry is lacking today.

How does one size fit all a good solution. If you have 200 pounds to move, it will cost over $10.00 a pound just to ship it through their system. How come they can't tell the customer that the coverage they claim to provide to the customer that is included with each shipment,
is bogus. I think you would need to have a spaceship land on your container for you to be able to make a claim, as the whole issue here as with all of these new alternatives, is that the customer, becomes self insured and two, he moves himself, but pays as much as he would for a
full service move and does not have insurance to cover any losses.

This is the crap we get from one of the nations largest van lines. No transparency, no value in pricing and they do not tell anyone that their coverage will not cover the customer for self loading or packed by owner boxes. If this is a do it yourself service, how come they can't just tell you the truth? Why do they need to lie. Do you go to the market and buy fruits and vegetables, do you have to pay for 5 lbs of carrots, if you only want to buy one lb?

How does this help the moving industry, to promote a non transparent and one size fits all service, when the entire industry is about being able to deliver good service for a fair price. In
this day and age of renewed called for more regulation, not less, do we get a service that only promises an 11 day transit, over the freight system.

Maybe someone should tell Atlas and their "Smart Moving" program that Fedex, for example,
will take LTL freight from my dock on Monday, 4/16/12, and have it delivered to someone's
new home by this Friday, in New York, on 4/20/12, with standard freight delivery.

I might be wrong, but when we created our Small Shipment Services Program at Box Brothers, over 20 years ago, we set out to create an environment that leveled the playing field for the
smaller loads and their customers: We gave them certain dates and specific times for our crews
to do the pick ups; we took professional inventories; we packaged their possessions like they were our own, utilizing more and better packaging (air cushioning, void fill, eps foam sheeting, ethafoam for very heavy and breakable items like stone, glass, and statues, piano's, etc, and we boxed everything in customized cartons that were made to fit the item, not the other way around, and finally, palletized the shipment so that the only way that the shipment was moved, was with a forklift or a pallet jack--so that no item would be moved individually.

We also worked to obtain a mutually beneficial insurance program with a third party insured,
who specifically covers all items which need to be declared and valued prior to the move. We offer different deductibles, replacement cost protection and in the event of a claim, 99% of them are closed within 30 days after a formal claim form is submitted by the claimant.

But the biggest factor in our continued success is that we have a top to bottom commitment to the customer and to rendering top quality service, no matter how small the job is. You turn your lemons into lemonade and and you do not mislead your customer, nor do you convince him or her that a one size solution is best for all.

Atlas is a fine van line, one of the best, but I think this program, including suggesting the use of stock boxes, not official moving boxes is also a mistake by Atlas here, as on the one hand, they tell people that dish packs should be used for packing dishes and glasses--the standard for many decades in the moving industry--and they encourage the use of a single wall carton if you do it
yourself. Why?

I just wish that sometimes, large firms do their due diligence correctly, as we seem to forget what we have learned over the years, that we need to be service oriented and we need to provide good solutions for our customers, not something that is only a partial and not a complete
solution for their current and future small shipment customers. At the same time, these efforts only ensure that firms like Box Brothers will continue to play a part in this segment of the industry.

Mother's Day is Coming........

Just a friendly reminder to all of you that Mother's Day is only 14 days from today, May 13th.
It is very important not to wait till the last minute to ship Mom her gifts, as if you do it early, it
will be less expensive to ship, since we have time this week to ship the presents ground, and not
air, which is a lot more money.

My mother, unfortunately, is no longer alive, but I remember what she often told me in her later years, which, for some reason, still rings true: a mother can take care of 10 kids, but 10 kids cannot take care
of one mother......I think my Mom told me this when I first forgot to get her a mother's day gift.....but
after hearing that statement, I was never late again.

Ask me, one day is not enough to celebrate mothers, as without them, where would be all be......
Happy Mothers Day.

USPS Heightens Awareness for Employees with Disabilities

To contact us Click HERE
The U.S. Postal Service, which employs more than 40,000 individuals with reportable disabilities, will join forces with the National Association of People with Disabilities, the U.S. Business Leadership Network and other organizations to celebrate and recognize the many and varied talents of American workers living with disabilities.

Postal employees with disabilities have access to a variety of assistive technology tools, including — but not limited to — Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) and Video Relay Service (VRS) for the deaf or hard of hearing and screen reading software and text readers for those with visual impairments. Employees can also use the Postal Reasonable Accommodation Assistance Center (PRAAC) website — a one-stop resource for employees and managers to find reference material, definitions and useful links to help employees better understand reasonable accommodations.
Held each October, National Disability Employment Awareness is a national campaign to raise awareness about people living with disabilities to dispel negative stereotypes about disability and employment. This year’s theme “A Strong Workforce is an Inclusive Workforce: What Can YOU Do,” promotes the benefits of a diverse workforce — inclusive of those with disabilities.

National Disability Employment Awareness Month dates back to 1945, when Congress enacted a law declaring the first week in October each year "National Employ the Physically Handicapped Week." In 1962, the word "physically" was removed to acknowledge the employment needs and contributions of individuals with all types of disabilities. In 1988, Congress expanded the week to a month and changed the name to National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
About the Campaign for Disability EmploymentThe Campaign for Disability Employment seeks to promote positive employment outcomes for people with disabilities by encouraging employers, and others, to recognize the value and talent that people with disabilities bring to the workplace. The campaign is a collaborative effort involving organizations such as the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD); the National Business and Disability Council (NBDC) and the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).
