Effective Thursday, November 15, Post Offices will begin acceptingpackages containing lithium batteries installed in electronic devices bound formany international destinations, and Army (APO), Fleet (FPO) and DiplomaticPost Office (DPO) locations.
ThePostal Service has worked collaboratively with the International Civil AviationOrganization, the Universal Postal Union, and the Federal Aviation Authority tosecure the changes needed to allow acceptance of international mail shipmentscontaining lithium batteries. (Based onthe requirements of international organizations, including the InternationalCivil Aviation Organization and the Universal Postal Union, as of May 16, 2012,the Postal Service was unable to accept international mail shipments containinglithium batteries.)
Items which can beshipped may include cameras, video cameras, mobile/smart phones, Bluetoothheadsets, laptop computers, shavers, portable DVD players, tablets, two-wayradios, GPS devices and most other small electronic devices requiring lithiumbatteries to operate. Items which cannotbe shipped include any lithium batteries not installed in the equipment theyare intended to operate.
